Peak soil, ocean dead zones caused by fertilizer run-off (you could also compare loss of ocean diversity of fishery populations caused by this to total global food supply)and the very basic ecology that a feeder population will expand to its food supply. Humans are not exempt from natural law and growing more food will result in more people.Judson Parkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11099734184798696923noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9864176.post-76354076320165070602007-10-31T21:57:00.000+11:002007-10-31T21:57:00.000+11:00Hey - I'm the only one who is allowed to make bad ...Hey - I'm the only one who is allowed to make bad jokes around here !

But you did make me chuckle a little.

I did talk a little about soil depletion, but it was a very brief note.

Maybe the mineral harvesting plankton could also sequester carbon at a rapid rate and also be turned into biodiesel (after spitting out its valuable bounty) ? (I confess that, like others, I also skim-read most of the post :-O )

Big Gav's mention of genetic engineering reminds me that a while ago I came across a 1970s-ish issue of Scientific American which talked about the wonders of harvesting gold, platinum, oil, plastics, etc. from the sea, by using genetically engineered plankton. This was to have been in the near future, i.e., the 1980s.

To whoever has the patents on those plankton: it's time to let other people license them! :-)Greghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11939046017258198038noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9864176.post-6457218921948119662007-10-31T00:19:00.000+11:002007-10-31T00:19:00.000+11:00If you read through all the links that probably wo...If you read through all the links that probably won't be enough !Big Gavhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00682404837426502876noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9864176.post-38263690452569638202007-10-31T00:13:00.000+11:002007-10-31T00:13:00.000+11:00Bloody Hell!
