Geodynamic's initial success has already spawned an imitator, Green Rock Energy, which is aiming to supply power to the Olympic Dam uranium mine.

TWO former WMC executives have joined in an ambitious bid to harness geothermal energy at WMC's Olympic Dam copper and uranium mine, which could be a ready market for the power.

Listed explorer Green Rock Energy yesterday completed the acquisition of geothermal energy licences over WMC leases in South Australia covering 2700sqkm around Olympic Dam, where power needs could more than treble in a proposed $5 billion expansion.

Rocks at Olympic Dam are not as hot as those of Geodynamics in the far northeast of South Australia, but Green Rock Energy managing director Adrian Larking said his project was set apart by closeness to customers.
