The Green Queen

Buckingham Palace is going green. At least the royal family won't be paying exorbitant gas bills this winter.

Richard Branson did it. Elton John did it. It seems that going geothermal for heating is the British equivalent of driving a Prius - the thing to do to show you care. Now Queen Elisabeth is installing a geothermal system in Buckingham Palace. One source said: "Now the Queen will no longer have to go around switching off the radiators." She is also making Balmoral Castle self-sufficient by installing a private hydroelectric plant.
