What's Cooking ? Smells Like Aluminium

EcoGeek points to this excellent example of an industrial use of solar thermal technology at the Materials Sceince Insitute in Parkent, Uzbekistan. The concentrator unit can apparently generate 1 MW of power (according to this UPI report) though it is usually referred to as a "solar furnace" which sounds more like the heat is used directly.
Apparently it used to be used for testing missile components, but is now used for exotic ceramics production (or melting Aluminium, according to the EcoGeek story).
