The Mowercycle

Energy efficient lawn mowing is a subject that I considered a few years ago when I came into ownership of a lawn, eventually deciding on a Flymo hand mower that does a good job, as long as I don't let the grass grow for too long in summer.

Inhabitat has a post on someone who has combined the hand mower idea with a bicycle, producing a hybrid known as the Mowercycle. Its an interesting idea, but I remain skeptical of its practicality.

Behold the mowercycle! Is this an awesome DIY design or what? This ingenious bicycle-lawnmower fashioned by an unknown suburban lawn owner out of an old bicycle and a broken lawnmower, is a testament to the creativity of the human spirit. Spotted in dot dream’s flickr stream, we have no idea who the original photographer was, nor do we know anything about the owner/designer of the MOWERCYCLE. All we know is that it is awesome and should be an inspiration to sustainable design fans and DIY tinkerers everywhere.

I thought you blokes had wallabies for that sort of thing. Up here in California we use a pair of geese. Sheep would work on large lawns like parks and schools. Common sense seems to violate some rule or another though.

There aren't too many wallabies in Sydney.

Must admit I like the idea of roaming pairs of geese keeping the lawn trimmed though.
