There's a Terrorist In The Wifi-pile !

If you're a big brother watcher you'll no doubt have realised that things like public open wifi connections are kind of a pain for those trying to create the universal surveillance state (though far from an insurmountable one, I'd hasten to add), so I'm not surprised to read in Engadget that India has started a new trend by trying to lock down all wifi points to authorised (ie. known and easily trackable) users only - India cracks down on open WiFi to stem terrorism, chain letters.
Bruce Schneier has long said we should all leave our wifi points open (and I'd also suggest joining a peer to peer network) - though he did note recently that if you are unlucky you might get your house raided as a result - Terrorists Using Open Wireless Networks.
Just when you thought you were doing your buddy next door a favor, turns out leaving your WiFi router open to the public is the first step in staging a terrorist bombing -- who knew? The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) reckons the country just isn't ready for that kind of responsibility, seeing as how email over WiFi is all the rage for transmitting instructions to fellow terror-ees these days. The aim is now to limit WiFi net access to authorized persons only. Man, just imagine what they'll do with WiMAX. In other news, the pencil sitting next to you could be used to poke your eye out if you're not careful.
