REW reports that planning approval has been granted for the first stage of Australia's largest wind farm - Planning Approval Granted for Australia's Largest Wind Project.
The state government of New South Wales has granted approval for the first phase of the Silverton Wind Farm, set to be the biggest wind farm in Australia.
Planning approval covers the installation of 282 turbines near Silverton in the far west of New South Wales for the project which is being developed by Conergy subsidiary EPURON GmbH.
The second phase of Silverton Wind Farm comprises another 316 turbines and is also in the approval process. With 598 turbines in total, Silverton Wind Farm could ultimately cover around 4.5% of New South Wales' energy requirements.
