The Climate Spectator reports that the UK wave power testing facility is almost ready to go - Deep-sea socket.
The UK is about to begin final commissioning of its £42 million Wave Hub, a giant under-water power socket located on the sea-bed on the north coast of Cornwall that will allow for testing of numerous different wave energy technologies. The 12-tonne device will allow as many as four wave energy prototypes to be plugged in for testing, and will be linked to the grid via a 25-km cable. The first wave energy devices are expected to be hooked up to the socket from next year.
Meanwhile, Australia’s Carnegie Wave Energy says it has received the second milestone payment under the $12.5 million state government grant for its Perth Wave Energy Project. Carnegie has now drawn down approximately $1.6m of the $12.5 million grant and is currently meeting all development milestones for the 5MW project, which is being installed off Garden Island.
