Edward Snowden has done us all a favour – even Barack Obama

The FT has a great column by Edward Luce on the Snowden saga (subtitled "For a whole generation, the US is coming to stand for Big Brother"), suggesting it has done Obama and those who still believe in civil society a favour by enabling a debate about the role of the American "shadow state" - Edward Snowden has done us all a favour – even Barack Obama.
A decade ago you only saw this sort of topic (and recommendations) being discussed on very fringe conspiracy theory sites - and now every pillar of the establishment press is having to discuss it.
As Luce says - "We should be grateful that Mr Snowden came forward."
