The Australian reports that a site for a new LNG plant in the Kimberleys (in far north west WA) has been agreed with native landowners - Kimberley LNG deal a goer. Presumably this is likely to process gas from the Browse Basin, making further expansion of the North West Shelf gas plant unlikely once Pluto 2 is completed.
A MULTI-BILLION-DOLLAR liquefied natural gas plant is set to be developed in Western Australia's northwest after a landmark deal between Aborigines, government and business.
Kimberley Aborigines gave in-principle approval yesterday for the gas precinct to be developed on land at James Price Point, 60km north of Broome, in return for compensation worth more than $1 billion over 30 years. ...
Mr Barnett said he wanted the land agreement and the environmental approval process to be completed by late next year. "This would enable a foundation proponent, such as Woodside, to begin construction by mid to late 2011," he said.
Woodside spokesman Roger Martin welcomed the move and said the company looked forward to signing the agreement.
